Nov. 21st, 2009 11:26 pmYour friendly neighborhood fic pimp, having being pimped into Being Human with the promise that it would explore the 'found/chosen family' theme like crazy, is here to point to some excellent stories.
For those who are unfamiliar with Being Human, here are the stats:
BBC television show airing six episodes so far, not counting the original pilot (which used a slightly different cast.)
It features three apparent 20-somethings with few connections to the greater world, except each other. They are all striving to accept or become something larger than has been thrust upon them, and without exception, they need the others' support to do it well.
They are Annie, George and Mitchell; ghost, werewolf and vampire; woman of color, Jew and Irish (does Irish count? I get the feeling they're doing something complex and British with class and nationality as well as race) The lives they are striving for are so simple and beautiful and small and alive.
And did I mention it's been picked up for series 2? Also that Hollywood is optioning an American version? I love the BBC's version, myself, and it would take you only six episodes to try it out, so! You should give it a whirl, is my point, and then write stories. Yes.
